I Scream, Ice Cream
My love affair for cupcakes began when I first laid eyes upon a Sprinkles cupcake.
I remember the first time I had a Sprinkles cupcake. It was heavenly. My sister had brought home a large brown box home and said I could have one of the cupcakes inside. I expected the regular cupcakes, which she would have picked up from the grocery store. Being the ever so curious person I am, I peered inside the box to catch a glimpse of the treat she had brought home. I have never seen cupcakes like those before. They were gorgeous and much too pretty to be eaten. Nevertheless, I picked up their red velvet cupcake to sample. Little did I know that this was my introduction to red velvet and I would soon hold all cupcakes to the standard of Sprinkles. After my delightful discovery, I have always loved Sprinkles and introduced my friends to their delectable cupcakes.
Since then Sprinkles and its founder, Candace Nelson, have gone off to many business ventures including Food Network's Cupcake Wars, the first ever 24-hour Cupcake ATM, and as of this weekend, ice cream. As a connoisseur of all things Sprinkles, I decided to make the trek out to Beverly Hills with my sister and visit their first ever ice cream shop, Sprinkles Ice Cream.
Luckily the line wasn't extremely long when we got there, but there was still a wait. The first thing I noticed was how clean and crisp the entire store looked covered in white. Inspired by their next door cupcake shop, customers are able to mix and mash ice cream and cupcakes in various treats including, brownies, cookies, ice cream in cones and cups, ice cream sandwiches, shakes, sundaes, and more.
Of course, I HAD to try their red velvet ice cream flavor and was pleasantly surprised because I could distinctly taste Sprinkles red velvet cupcake chunks in the ice cream. After sampling a couple more flavors, I eventually settled on their red velvet ice cream in a red velvet cone. I mean, where else would you find a red velvet waffle cone?! And I'm glad I did because it was delicious! Red velvet + red velvet = HEAVEN My sister chose the cherry vanilla, also in a red velvet cone, and loved that there were actually whole cherries in the ice cream.
Sprinkles Ice Cream is a fun twist on Sprinkles because they're often seen as only a cupcake shop. I would love to come back again to try their other desserts, specifically their ice cream sandwiches. They use cupcake tops to sandwich their ice cream. It is sheer genius! How have I not thought of that before?!
