Katsu Sandos

sandoitchi makes Japanese-style sandwiches and they are currently doing a pop-up in Austin!

I missed out on the pre-order last week so this past Sunday so I made sure I didn’t miss it this week. Luckily I scored their hot menchi truffle chicken katsu and pork katsu sandos. And boy were they delicious.

My favorite part is the sando is the fluffy milk bread because it reminds me of the bread we would get from Asian bakeries growing up.

They have extended their Austin pop-up for one more week. So if you have not had any luck securing these exclusive sandos yet, here are my tips. Hope they help!

  1. Follow them on Instagram at @sando.itchi. Their Instagram account is where they have the most updated information and where they share the upcoming menu, when pre-order opens, and when pre-order sells out.

  2. Plan your order ahead of time. If you have been following them already you are probably familiar with what they have already been offering. If not, on Sunday morning/afternoon they will share the upcoming week’s menu. Review it and make sure you have a game plan of what to order and how many. Also check your schedule so you know when you can pick them up. They currently offer pickups on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

  3. Reminders and alarms. Their pre-order goes lives at exactly 6PM CST on Sunday. Set whatever alarm or reminder (phone, calendar, Instagram, etc.) you need to be available to order at that time or even a little earlier, which leads me to my next tip.

  4. Be early. I suggest being early and ready to click their pre-order link 5-10 minutes before 6PM CST. With so many people ordering the extra seconds count. (Also, I think this was the reason why I got in the second time and not the first time.)

  5. Get in and get out. Once in, quickly place your order, select your pick up day and time, and payment. Congrats - you have secured your sandoitchi order!

  6. Pick up. When it comes to picking up your order I recommend getting their early, as close to the beginning of your pick up window as possible. Not only is there construction happening around 6th St, but more people start to show up and a line begins to form if you arrive late.

I really hope these tips are helpful. Good luck everyone and may the odds be ever in your favor!
