Mani Monday

It's a disgusting habit, but I struggled with biting my nails for years. Finally, I discovered the best solution was to paint them. Trust me, if I could I would have weekly mani/pedi appointments - nothing compares with having your nails done professionally. They just look better. But until then I'll be DIYing at home with this trusty kit.

Sally Hansen Nail Treatment Instant Cuticle Remover ($4.99) + SKINFOOD Cuticle Pusher // Personally, I prefer to push back my cuticles and this Sally Hansen treatment makes it a breeze. Just apply it on your nails, let it sit for 5 secs and push them back with a cuticle pusher or orange wood stick. I picked this SKINFOOD one up when I was in Taiwan a few years ago, but you can purchase a similar one here.

Trim Fingernail & Toenail Clippers ($3.99) // I've picked these up on a whim and they've proved to be of surprisingly good quality.

Sephora Crystal Nail File ($10) // This has been the ONLY nail file I've been using for the past couple years. It has a very fine grit, which I don't mind because I prefer short nails. And since it's made of glass it's reusable - rinse it with water and it's good to go.

OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener Matte Formula ($16.95) // It is pricey, but trust me - it works. I've used this on both my brother and myself and our nails grew back stronger and thicker. The only issue I have with this is that it's not really matte, like it claims to be and for a guy it's a bit awkward when you have shiny nails.

Butter London Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat ($19) // This on the other hand actually dries to a nude matte finish. I love using this as a base coat before I apply polish and on its own when I want to forego color.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat ($9.95) // Nail enthusiasts everywhere rave that this is THE best top coat on the market and I'm here to say yes, I agree. Not only do my nails dry in an instant, but they're so glossy. Two weeks into my manicure, I often find myself staring at my nails thinking, "How are they still this shiny?!"
