To Sac, with Love

People always find it funny when they discover that I live with two science majors, both whom are ultimately med school bound. Our fields of study are very different academically, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate the work each of us do in our respective fields. They are super supportive and among the few people who truly understand what I do for work. In response, I am in awe and incredibly proud of both of them for being accepted into two notable California med schools, UC Davis School of Medicine and Keck School of Medicine of USC. The white coat ceremony is a ritual that marks a medical student's first step into the study of clinical health sciences. It is such a significant event in a medical student's life, that I couldn't bear to miss it.

So A and I decided to make the trek up to NorCal via Greyhound. This was my first time riding the Greyhound and it may be my last. It was similar to riding an airplane, but with constant turbulence - which I am not fond of.

I had never been to a white coat ceremony before so I wasn't sure what to expect, but there were plenty of surprises from the bagpipes to the influential speeches and the presentation of stethoscopes. To celebrate this momentous event, we stuffed ourselves at an AYCE sushi buffet in Davis and paid a visit to the bustling Davis Farmers Market where we picked up some delicious fresh apple juice (which A & I are the new spokespeople of), fresh produce and herbs, and cupcakes from Let Them Eat Cake.

It was a short, but sweet trip and I am beyond proud of E and know she's going to make a mighty fine doctor one day. Here's to you Dr. Lee! You're up next, Dr. Kim!
